Guided by Why: AACN's 2017-2018 Theme

Posted over 7 years ago by Jennifer Brouwer

AACN President Christine Schulman discusses the lost art for adults of simply asking "why" at 2017 NTI. Her speach and theme is serving as the vision and motivation for the Phoenix Area chapter as they work through the challanges of restarting a chapter from the ground up.

Christine, asks all of us "Why did you want to become a nurse"? As discussed in the book "Start With Why," by Simon Sinek, she elaboartes on how nurses are more willing and inspried to take action when they understand the "why" and have similar goals and beliefs with the core purpose.

Schulman states "the why makes us slow down and ask the right questions, it is essential when times get tough. When we do this," she says, "we reaffirm our core purpose and have a guiding beacon for what we can-what we must-do to ensure that every patient gets the excellent care they deserve. And that every nurse has the tools and the skills they need to provide that care."

This statement resonates with our local Chapter as each board member answered the quesiton "Why restart the Greater Phoenix AACN chapter". See our board members "guided by why" statements in our About Us  - Board Members page. View the full AACN President, Christine Schulman's extremely motivational speech here and we challenge each of you to ask your self "why"!
