President Elect Candidate: Heather Przybyl

Heather Przybyl has been in the critical care setting for over 25 years.  Originally from Chicago, IL Heather worked at Loyola University Medical Center for 12 years in the Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU).  After arriving in Arizona, she worked at Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) again in the TSICU.  Heather then obtained her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on education from Grand Canyon University in 2010 and began pursuing a position in the clinical education department working in the Medical Surgical ICU (MSICU).  Heather graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on Healthcare Informatics from Loyola University Chicago in 2013.  Currently, she works as a RN Certified Specialist for Critical Care area at BUMCP.  Heather is also a member of the Speakers Bureau for Baxter/Gambro.  Additionally, she has held her critical care certification (CCRN) since 2007 and is adjunct faculty at Arizona State University.

Heather is interested in a position with the GPAC board to continue to spread awareness of critical care issues to the group. Increased involvement with the board will also potentiate participation with the Banner Health system, which has historically been low involvement.  Further involvement with the board is a personal goal for her as well.

Secretary Candidate: Casey Thompson

This letter is to express my interest in running for the Greater Phoenix Area Chapter of AACN Secretary Position for July 2021-July 2022.  I have worked in the Medical ICU as an RN at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) for 15 years.  During this time I worked as a bedside RN and RN Manager, and am currently working at the bedside.

I believe I would be an excellent fit for this position.  During my 15 years at BUMCP I have been a part of ICU Shared Leadership, including being Chair for 2 years.  We did not have a secretary at that time so in addition to being responsible for setting and running the meetings, I also kept notes, compiled the minutes, and distributed them electronically to all ICU staff and leadership.  Although virtual meetings were not common at the time, I did set up meeting rooms and bridge lines to accommodate those unable to attend in person.

I was also a member of our Silent Hospitals Help Healing (SHHH) and Night Shift Team Building committees.  Both committees have since been dissolved, but during my approximate 5 years on each team, I maintained both committee web pages on the Banner Health intranet.  I also transitioned the SHHH website to a SharePoint.

During my time as a Clinical Manager, I was one of the administrators on a Private Facebook page for my ICU unit, and I am currently an administrator for a private BUMCP ICU Covid Facebook page.

I am currently on the board of the Tom Bajo ICU Assistance Endowment committee, a committee that oversees the fundraising and distribution of donations to assist BUMCP ICU patients and their families while they are in the ICU.  As part of this team, I have presented information on our committee at staff meetings, helped develop a trifold that I also keep stocked on each ICU floor, and share participation opportunities with staff via email, Facebook, and posted signage.

I believe my time management and organizational skills, passion for nursing, and enthusiasm for all projects and teams I participate in make be a great candidate for this position.

Social Media Candidate: Sarah Kading

Hello my name is Sarah Kading I am looking into running for the role as social media manager. I work in the Trauma Surgical ICU at Banner University and have only been a nurse for a year but I am looking into getting involved in the local AACN chapter! I am from Arizona and went to Grand Canyon University for my BSN. I like going to the gym, hiking, camping and running. I am also the Co-Chair of ICU shared leadership and a magnet ambassador. I believe I would be great at this role because as a younger nurse I am well versed in Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc! I work very well with technology and social media. Often times my coworkers, friends, and family come to me for any technological advice or social media tips! I am only 23 thus giving me the advantage of being quite up to date with current trends especially on social media! I love taking pictures and love getting people involved. I believe with the correct social media touch, you can reach more people and get more people involved!

Member at Large Candidates: Shaine Moir and Christen Stevens

My name is Shaine Moir. I am a Registered Nurse at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix in an intensive care unit. I'm also a clinical instructor for Eastern Arizona College. I've been a nurse for almost five years, and am a new member of the GPAC community. I am interested in getting involved! The role of a "Member at Large" stands out, because I feel that's a role I can be helpful in of all the positions available. I would like to assist with the monthly events and communicate these events with at my campus.

I feel that I can serve as a positive member in this role, because I find the greatest joy in supporting nurses! This is an opportunity to serve in a role that contributes to the nursing profession in a meaningful way.

My name is Christen Stevens and I have been a Critical Care RN for 10 years. I currently am an Educator for Honorhealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center for the ICU and NeuroTrauma Unit. I have served on the GPAC board for 4 years now in numerous roles from President to Member. I would like to support the board by being a Member at Large. I have experience in planning monthly educational events as well as working with vendors.
